Video: Dig Of The Day: Breakin’ (Trailer – 1984)

32 years ago today, Breakin’ aka Breakdance: The Movie or Break Street ’84 (in some countries) was released in theaters, May 4, 1984 was the date, check out the trailer for the movie above.

A breakdancing-themed comedy-drama film based on a story by Parker, DeBevoise and Gerald Scaife, directed by Joel Silberg and written by Charles Parker and Allen DeBevoise . It was inspired by a ’83 German Breakin’ and Enterin’ documentary set in the Los Angeles multi-racial hip hop club, Radiotron, based out of MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.

Many of the artists and dancers, including Ice T (who makes his film debut as a club MC) and Boogaloo Shrimp, went straight from Breakin’ and Enterin’ to star in Breakin’.

The soundtrack of the film was released by Polydor Records in 1984. The album contains Ice T‘s first performance on an album, produced by DJ Chris “The Glove” Taylor & David Storrs.
