Raid Kyu – Stray Cats & Sunsets (Chapter 2 – Full Album)
Raid Kyu is back with a new full album, that is packed with chilled jazzy beats and creative turntablism. Known for his “The turntable is an instrument” philosophy, Raid integrates the turntable as an essential part of his compositions on the new record. Every musical part on the record is played live, either by him or by one of the guests he invited for this musical journey. While respecting the tradition of sampling, he prefers to create every melody and chord by himself, which leads to the most accurate and articulated version of his creative vision.
“Stray Cats & Sunsets” started out as a live beat making session video for youtube where Raid plays the keys, drums and scratches. Then it slowly transformed into a full album that now is available on vinyl. The guests are some internationally acclaimed artists in their respective fields. DJ Odilon, very well known in the turntablism comunity. Gnarly, a world class finger drummer. Mesmerising singers Aleksandra Denda and Ivi Manivi. Everything is rounded up with some distinguished instrumentalists from Belgrades Jazz scene: Ivan Klačar, Pavle Mihailović, Gavrilo Nikolić and Lazar Šarenac. The vinyl was mastered by Janko Maraš. In addition to that, Raid invited two street artists to create the cover. One was done by Lunar from Zagreb, known for his creative stylistic use of cats which perfectly fitted the concept. The other one was illustrated by Drü Egg, a Swiss artist that blends pop art, cubism, and street culture into atmospheric
drawings. If you are enjoying jazzy Hip Hop, turntablism and music that emphasises a live, human and creative feel, this could be the record for you. Stray Cats & Sunsets is out on all platforms except Spotify, and also available on vinyl which you will find on Raids Bandcamp page.
