Video: Coely – “Hush”

The first lady of Belgian rap is back with a bang with the Hush music video. Born and raised in Antwerp with a proud Congolese heritage, Coely simply can’t be pigeonholed into one particular box. The 24-year-old rapper mixes her steamy flow with catchy hooks, sick beats, a ton of street cred and just the right dose of irresistible soul/rnb melodies.

Recently named Best Female Artist and Best Urban Act at the Music Industry Awards in her home country, Coely already proved that she got what it takes to conquer the rest of the world. Her fierceness and versatility got her to open for US big shots Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and J. Cole, as well as to play at Glastonbury last year. Following her debut album “Different Waters” released in March 2017, the rising star took part in the critically acclaimed soundtrack of the “Above the Law” (Tueurs)thriller, which reunites the elite of Belgian hip hop. Produced by Clément ‘Animalsons’ Dumoulin (who previously worked with renowned French rappers Booba, JoeyStarr, Lunatic), Hushtackles thought-provoking topics such as corruption, innocence and prejudice.

“My track tells the story of a gangster who wants to change for his family. The moral being: the good people are not always the ones you expect, and the bad people are sometimes not that bad in the end. Everyone wears a mask”, Coely explains. Directed by Sidney Van Wichelen, the “Hush” visuals will be unveiled on May 3, leading to a summer full of high-profile festivals such as Frauenfeld, North Sea Jazz, Tomorrowland and Melt.
