Valid drops “The Bronko Tape 2”

Valid has been building quietly — and Bronko Tape 2 is the moment it becomes impossible to ignore. The project arrives just before a Balkan tour alongside Grammy-winning DJ Head, carried by a run of singles that have already made noise across the underground. “Riverwalk” became the Detroit summer record, earning love from hip-hop heads across the season. “Live My Life,” featuring the legendary Elzhi alongside Serbian rap icon Mikri Maus — who delivers his verse entirely in Serbian over production from Macedonian DJ Goce — pushed Valid’s Detroit-meets-Balkans identity into new territory, earning spins from Statik Selektah and DJ Eclipse on Eminem’s Shade 45 and recognition from Ambrosia For Heads, including a placement on their official Spotify playlist.

The project is a mixtape by design — a deliberate departure from the focused, sculpted energy of Valid’s album releases like Mihajlo, Peach Brandy, and Bill & Isiah with Stretch Money. Bronko Tape 2 is Valid drawing without constraints: Kool Keith on the light-hearted smoker’s anthem, Detroit boom bap, Balkan hip-hop, and everything in between. The name comes from Bronko Lubich, an Eastern European immigrant who built a legacy in American wrestling that was felt most by those closest to him. It’s a fitting reference. Valid has always understood that the most important reputation is the one you build in the room.
