How Havoc Turned Failure Into Mobb Deep’s Defining Sound

After their debut album Juvenile Hell (1993) underperformed and led to 4th & Broadway dropping them, producer/rapper Havoc returned to the Queensbridge Houses with a chip on his shoulder. Channeling the commercial failure into intense focus, he stripped away mainstream aspirations, pioneered a chillingly minimalist, dark, and paranoid aesthetic, and crafted the blueprint for The Infamous (1995).
