Dig Of The Day: Das EFX – Dum Dums (1992)

Hey folks! Today we have one of my favourite Das EFX tracks which I used to bump every day for months. It’s unique in it’s own way no doubt. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY (Skoob) and Teaneck, NJ (Drayz), they got together and formed Das EFX while in college at Virginia State University. The first part of the group name Das stands for “Dray and Skoob” and the “EFX” meaning “effects”.

Back in the early 90’s they became known due to their affiliation with EPMD’s Hit Squad, after coming in second place at a talent contest judged by EPMD and due to their stream of consciousness lyrical delivery, which became one of the most influential lyrical styles in Hip-Hop at the time. Also, DJ Dice was their DJ for some time. Dum Dums is off their debut Dead Serious released on EastWest Records America in ’92.

Samples used are The Happy Song (Dum-Dum) by Otis Redding (1968), Here We Go (Live at the Funhouse) by Run-DMC (1985) and Get Me Back on Time, Engine #9 by Wilson Pickett (1970)

Produced by Chris Charity and Derek Lynch
