With the West Coast buzz goin\u2019 super hard, 106KMEL\u2019s own Shay Diddy<\/strong> had the chance to sit down with DJ Quik<\/strong> backstage at the Art of Rap<\/strong> festival. They discussed his experience working in the studio with Dr. Dre<\/strong>, and having a \u201csuper fan\u201d moment with him. Quik<\/strong> also calls Dre\u2019<\/strong>s newest album \u201cbrilliant\u201d and the \u201cfuture of music\u201d.<\/p>\n

As for himself, Quik<\/strong> isn\u2019t sure if he will be dropping a new album, though if he did, he names Erick Sermon<\/strong>, Xzibit King T<\/strong>, and Mack 10<\/strong> as artists he\u2019d want to collaborate with. Additionally, he names Jeezy, Drake<\/strong> and Kendrick Lamar<\/strong> being some of his favorite artists out right now, even calling Kendrick<\/strong> the \u201cN.W.A.<\/strong> Jr\u201d.<\/p>\n

Quik<\/strong> also talked about working with DJ Mustard<\/strong> on YG\u2019s<\/strong> Pop It<\/em> and My Ni**a<\/em>, and his thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop and the direction its headed. Lastly, Quik<\/strong> reminisced about how KMEL broke his debut record Born and Raised in Compton<\/em> back in \u201991.<\/p>\n
