This week the New York City Department of Parks held a ceremony officially changing the name of Brooklyn Heights&#8217; Palmetto Playground to Adam Yauch Park.<\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn Borough president Marty Markovitz was joined by Yauch&#8217;s fellow Beastie Boys members Adam &#8220;Ad-Rock&#8221; Horovitz and Michael &#8220;Mike D&#8221; Diamond as the playground, which Yauch frequented as a youth, was renamed in his honor. There was virtually no resistance to a social media campaign to have the playground&#8217;s name changed as a tribute to Yauch.<\/p>\n<p>Yauch passed away on May 4, 2012 at the age of 47 after losing a battle to throat cancer.
