Yesterday evening Kanye & Jay (better known as The Throne these days) held a private Watch The Throne<\/em> listening session in NYC. They presented their album to family, friends and invitees at Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Guests included Beyonce, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, Steve Stoute, Lyor Cohen, Kelly Rowland, DJ Khaled and more (check out a few pics from the event here<\/a>, and scroll down Joe La Puma<\/a>‘s Twitter timeline for a nice review of the whole evening). <\/p>\n Sometimes life as a deejay is amazing. Sometimes life as a deejay is repetitive and monotonous, like any career. Last night fell into the first category. I got a call from my 4AM homie Jus Ske like \u201cstop what you are doing and meet me at The Darby.\u201d I finished up what I was working on and headed over there\u2026 and what a night.<\/p>\n We ended up deejaying the top-secret afterparty for Jay-Z and Kanye\u2019s exclusive \u201cWatch The Throne\u201d VIP listening event and it was amazing. A who\u2019s who of pop culture in 2011 was in this room\u2026 Jay, Kanye, Nas, A-Trak, Khaled, 88-Keys and more. And everyone was partying to the soundtrack we provided. The best thing about playing for a room of music insiders is you can just play from the heart, and not worry about throwing in silly top-40 girl anthems. And that\u2019s exactly what we did.<\/p>\n Jus started off with a great set of Jay-Z rarities and Jay\/Nas collabos (\u201cSuccess!\u201d) and Jay was sitting in the corner bobbing his head, rapping with all the songs. The highlight for me was when he played Biggie\u2019s \u201cRealms Of Junior Mafia\u201d and Jay went nuts.<\/p>\n Then it was my turn\u2026 as I got on, Kanye jumped up on a couch and took control of the room so I intro\u2019d with \u201cDark Fantasy\u201d and so we began. After running thru my favorite Kanye hits and album tracks\u2026 (my favorite: \u201cThru The Wire\u201d \u2013 his favorite: \u201cCan\u2019t Tell Me Nothing\u201d) it was time for the big moment: \u201cOtis.\u201d I swear, we must have stopped and restarted that song about 5 times and Jay and Kanye enjoyed the crowd mouthing every word to their new classic.<\/p>\n After that, I was able to dig a little deeper, playing some remixes from my Viva La Hova project, some old Kanye\/Jay blends I had in the stash (Jay\u2019s face when I mixed \u201cHeart Of The City\u201d over \u201cWe Major\u201d was priceless), and even some live Jay-Z \u201cUnplugged\u201d audio.<\/p>\n The personal highlight for me was when I played \u201cBig Brother\u201d and Kanye basically rapped the entire thing with Jay right there. Seemed like a perfect way to end a night celebrating a momentous album from the two most talented people in hip-hop right now.<\/p>\n All in all, an amazing night.
