Sad news has echoed throughout the Hip-Hop world. Cherished New York radio personality Lord Sear<\/strong> has unfortunately passed away on March 11th. He was instrumental for the underground\/independent Hip-Hop movement in the 90s. Born as Steve Watson<\/strong>, Lord Sear first became pivotal to the movement through his association with the iconic Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show<\/em> on Columbia University’s WKCR, which is widely considered to be the most influential radio program in Hip-Hop’s history. Sear joined the team after proving himself as Kurious’<\/strong> tour DJ, and would soon go on to become an integral part of WKCR’s program. He acted as a beatboxer, guest booker, and eventually, an official co-host on Stretch & Bobbito.<\/p>\n

That’s not the only place where he left a significant mark. Sear found a permanent home on Eminem’s<\/strong> Shade 45<\/em> on SiriusXM<\/em> in 2004. He was on the platform since its launch. Alongside Rude Jude<\/strong>, he hosted the All Out Show<\/em>, a wildly popular, unfiltered afternoon program. After departing from the All Out Show<\/em>, he started his own program, The Lord Sear Special<\/em>. It aired until his passing. Shade 45<\/em> described him as \u201cmore than a voice on the radio,\u201d calling him \u201ca force, a friend, and family.\u201d A tribute show will be held for him on March 12th, from 12:00 pm to 16:00 pm, Eastern Time.<\/p>\n

Radio hosting and DJing is not the only thing Lord Sear was known for. He was also a quality producer, and an emcee. One of his best-known singles is 1997’s “Alcoholic Vibes.” Throughout his career, he worked with high-profile names such as Beastie Boys<\/strong>, Big Pun<\/strong>, MF DOOM<\/strong>, Statik Selektah<\/strong>, The X-ecutioners<\/strong>, and more. In recent years, he put out projects with Jonny Empire, “Over The Top” in 2024, and “Related Relatives” in 2025. Sear also toured with Eminem <\/strong>on his Anger Management Tour<\/em> as a listed DJ. Alongside Stretch Armstrong<\/strong>, Lord Sear hosted the fictive “Game Radio” in Grand Theft Auto III, and later appeared as a minor character in Grand Theft Auto IV.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of friends and colleagues from the industry expressed sadness over his unexpected passing, including DJ Premier, Yasiin Baye, Fat Joe, Diamond D, B-Real, Crazy Legs, Xzibit, Meyhem Lauren, Masta Ace, and many more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord Sear’s contribution to the culture was nothing short of monumental.<\/strong><\/p>\n
