Cherished New York radio personality Lord Sear has unfortunately passed away on March 11th. He was instrumental for the underground/independent Hip-Hop movement in the 90s. Born as Steve Watson, Lord Sear first became pivotal to the movement through his association with the iconic Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show on Columbia University’s WKCR, which is widely considered to be the most influential radio program in Hip-Hop’s history. Sear joined the team after proving himself as Kurious’ tour DJ, and would soon go on to become an integral part of WKCR’s program. He acted as a beatboxer, guest booker, and eventually, an official co-host on Stretch & Bobbito.

That’s not the only place where he left a significant mark. Sear found a permanent home on Eminem’s Shade 45 on SiriusXM in 2004. He was on the platform since its launch. Alongside Rude Jude, he hosted the All Out Show, a wildly popular, unfiltered afternoon program. After departing from the All Out Show, he started his own program, The Lord Sear Special. It aired until his passing. Shade 45 described him as “more than a voice on the radio,” calling him “a force, a friend, and family.” A tribute show will be held for him on March 12th, from 12:00 pm to 16:00 pm, Eastern Time.

Radio hosting and DJing is not the only thing Lord Sear was known for. He was also a quality producer, and an emcee. One of his best-known singles is 1997’s “Alcoholic Vibes.” Throughout his career, he worked with high-profile names such as Beastie Boys, Big Pun, MF DOOM, Statik Selektah, The X-ecutioners, and more. In recent years, he put out projects with Jonny Empire, “Over The Top” in 2024, and “Related Relatives” in 2025. Sear also toured with Eminem on his Anger Management Tour as a listed DJ.
