Filip Ivelja, better known in the music world as Phat Phillie, is the most prominent regional hip-hop activist and DJ. Over his 30-year career, he has brought more than 200 rap artists to Croatia. Now, he\u2019s turning a new page in his illustrious career. For the first time, he will showcase his rich collection of memorabilia to the public in the exhibition <strong>&#8220;Memory Lane \u2013 40 Years of Hip-Hop,&#8221;<\/strong> which will take place from February 25 to March 21, 2025 at the beautiful interior of the <strong>Liszt Institute (Hungarian Cultural Center) <\/strong>in Zagreb. Through personal stories, the exhibition will highlight four decades of this global phenomenon in this part of Europe. Invited are also special guest co-curators and collectors DJ GY\u00f6ReMiX and Krisztian Kindler from Budapest, who will offer a unique insight into a lesser-known Hungarian hip-hop history. The exhibition will include various activities, special musical guests, and surprises. For almost a month, Zagreb will become the center of European and global hip-hop. On a symbolic level, it will reconnect with New York, the birthplace of hip-hop, through Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Phat Phillie&#8217;s Collection Showcase Video<\/h4>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hlLzKzQ0j0I?si=1dKh9dX6w9z7ujEo\" width=\"100%\" height=\"500\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">A Unique Celebration of Hip-Hop History<\/h3>\n<p>Last year, the world celebrated<strong> 50 years of hip-hop<\/strong>, the most globally widespread music genre. Zagreb\u2019s exhibition will showcase its importance in international hip-hop circles. The story began 40 years ago with the screening of iconic breakdance movies like \u201cBreakin\u2019\u201d and \u201cBeat Street.\u201d That same year, the legendary radio host Slavin Balen launched the show \u201cElectro-Funk Premiere\u201d on Zagreb\u2019s Radio 101. Even earlier, Yugoslav diplomat in New York, Mladen Mladenovi\u0107 (Milton Malden), co-founded the first hip-hop record label, <strong>Sugar Hill<\/strong>, introducing the first American rap records to Yugoslavia in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>The 1990s saw Croatia\u2019s \u201chip-hop rising,\u201d led by the \u201cBlackout\u201d show on Radio 101, hosted by Phat Phillie and Frx, and the emergence of iconic acts like TBF, Bolesna Bra\u0107a, Elemental, Edo Maajka, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Through this exhibition, visitors will discover the connections between <strong>Public Enemy<\/strong>, <strong>Ice T<\/strong>, <strong>Big L<\/strong>, <strong>Wu-Tang<\/strong>\u2026 and Phat Phillie. Similar exhibitions across Europe, like Paris\u2019 \u201cHip Hop 360,\u201d Hamburg\u2019s \u201cHamburg Graffiti History 1980-1999,\u201d London\u2019s \u201cBeyond The Streets,\u201d and Copenhagen\u2019s \u201cDansk hip hop 40 \u00e5r,\u201d have attracted thousands of fans, and a similar turnout is expected in Zagreb.
