(blackenterprise.com<\/a>) Rza is expressing his \u201cnatural creative evolution\u201d as an artist through a new symphonic ballet score he produced using lyrics he wrote as a teenager.
\nThe renowned Wu-Tang founding member, rapper, and producer has pushed his passion for music even further by creating his first ballet score, \u201cA Ballet Through Mud.\u201d Formed from the lyrics in years-old notebooks he wrote from age 14 to 18, the album tells Rza\u2019s coming-of-age story in his hometown of Staten Island, New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started reading through these lyrics, and I\u2019m recalling all the young love and the young exploration. The first time you had a drink or smoke,\u201d he tells Sky News.<\/em> \u201cAll this is written in my lyrics, like a lyrical diary\u2026 at first, I thought I should rap it, right? Because I\u2019m known as a rapper. But then I said, no, I should write music to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While sitting down at his piano, Rza, real name Robert Diggs, started crafting what would become his classical debut. He took the finished product and first performed the music in 2023 with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and dancers from the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre School. What resulted was a standing ovation, and now Rza has released his first full-length classical album.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I\u2019ve definitely been a guy that\u2019s pushing the boundaries and trying to surprise people,\u201d Rza says. \u201cDefinitely, you know, people would call it leftfield for me. But it\u2019s not, it\u2019s right in my alley.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He hopes his transition to classical music will inspire young children to learn instruments and feel \u201cit\u2019s cool to grab that violin or oboe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a certain type of brain stimulation that comes from this type of music creation. Hip-hop and rock music, or say today\u2019s music, has been able to be created on a computer, and that\u2019s great, that\u2019s the power of an orchestra in your hand,\u201d Rza says, crediting instrument playing for being \u201cmore elaborate, more communicative \u2014 not cookie-cutter.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for his plans within the classical music genre, Rza says it\u2019s only the beginning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to stop here. I\u2019ve already started writing something for the future that I\u2019m also fascinated with,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n
