The musician and producer, who rose to fame as one-half of the rap duo OutKast alongside Big Boi, appears on the front cover of the magazine\u2019s spring 2024 issue. <\/p>\nAndr\u00e9 released his debut solo album, New Blue Sun, in November. While he\u2019s always been ready to experiment with different genres and styles, the ambient, experimental flute music that makes up the album was a marked departure from the hip-hop and funk he\u2019s known for.<\/p>\n
However, he might return to hip-hop in the future, saying he\u2019d \u201clove\u201d to make a rap album. \u201cI just think it\u2019d be an awesome challenge to do a fire-ass album at 48 years old,\u201d he says. \u201cThat\u2019s probably one of the hardest things to do! I would love to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also discusses listening to New Blue Sun with Tyler, the Creator. He explains, \u201cI was in Tyler\u2019s living room listening to it, and then Frank [Ocean] just shows up. And so we\u2019re all sitting there listening to it. I\u2019m wondering what the young people\u2019s opinions would be. And I\u2019m so happy that what I\u2019m hearing is really good feedback.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes the melodies you\u2019re hearing, I was making them up on the spot or I was responding on the spot. That\u2019s the value of this album, that it\u2019s fully alive. It wasn\u2019t planned.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says of his latest album, and the departure from his usual sound, \u201cI\u2019m scared. I don\u2019t want to troll people. New Andr\u00e9 3000 album coming out! And you play it \u2013 like, man, what the fuck?<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the packaging, there\u2019s a graphic that says \u2018Warning: no bars.\u2019 So it completely lets you know what you\u2019re getting into before you get into it.
