Halifax, Nova Scotia-based Corey Writes<\/strong> released his latest project, Genres<\/em><\/a>, with tracks from all sorts of genres. But, the track The Basics is dedicated to the core of where Hip-Hop stems from, with a early 90’s feeling. Corey Writes <\/strong>felt he had to pay homage to Old School, so it was a no brainer to create something and also make sure it is the first song on the album.<\/p>\n

The 12-track EP demonstrates Writes<\/strong>\u2019 versatility and capability as an artist. The project goes beyond hip hop to live up to its name by channelling multiple genres and styles, with songs ranging from EDM and Rave inspired party anthems to pop, rap and more. Genres<\/em> shows listeners the dynamic nature of Writes<\/strong>\u2019 talent and offers fans a side of the artist they\u2019ve never heard before. <\/p>\n

This project was driven by creativity. I wanted to challenge myself to push my artistic views and approaches to create something different than anything I\u2019ve done in the past. The best part about the whole process was that nothing felt forced; I didn\u2019t wake up one day and say \u2018oh I gotta do a track like this or like that\u2019, I heard the beats and I was like \u2018ok how can I be different but true to me.<\/p>\n
