{"id":138487,"date":"2019-07-23T10:14:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-23T08:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blackouthiphop.com\/?p=138487"},"modified":"2019-07-21T15:04:37","modified_gmt":"2019-07-21T13:04:37","slug":"the-listening-the-story-behind-little-brothers-debut-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackouthiphop.com\/blog\/the-listening-the-story-behind-little-brothers-debut-album\/","title":{"rendered":"The Listening: The Story Behind Little Brother&#8217;s Debut Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"344\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QcMitpcmb7c\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Through the use of extensive interviews and never before seen archival footage, <em>The Listening <\/em>chronicles a key moment in <strong>Little Brother<\/strong>\u2019s past and present: the creation of their first album.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first of two short films about the group directed by <strong>Holland Randolph Gallagher<\/strong>, creator of the web series Hype, and produced in collaboration with <strong>Little Brother <\/strong>for Come Hear North Carolina. <\/p>\n<p>Started in a college dorm room by a group of North Carolina Central students in 2001, the <strong>Justus League<\/strong> collective and offshoot trio <strong>Little Brother<\/strong> defined the sound of Durham hip-hop for years to come, constructing a style altogether distinct from everything to the north and south.
