Nearly 20 years after Pete Rock & CL Smooth made their mark on hip-hop with the classic album Mecca and the Soul Brother, CL Smooth has recorded two new vocal versions over Mr. Chop’s psychedelic covers of the original Pete Rock beats.<\/p>\n

Last year, Mr. Chop \u2013 a producer and multi-instrumentalist behind several Now-Again recordings and DOOM’s Born Like This \u2013 released For Pete’s Sake, an album made up entirely of psych, funk, jazz and rock covers of Pete Rock\u2019s greatest beats. The backing tracks for the new versions with CL Smooth’s are different than those on the Pete\u2019s Sake album, and feature The Heliocentrics\u2019 Malcolm Catto on drums.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
