Whether you know it or not, Jay Z<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m not a businessman, I\u2019m a business, man\u201d mantra descends from the lineage EPMD<\/strong> started, dating back to the late 1980s. The Brentwood, Long Island, New York \u201cfunk lords\u201d formed their group 30 years ago and released their groundbreaking debut album Strictly Business<\/em> in 1988, and was vital to the art of sampling in rap. The album boasted four singles You Gots to Chill, I\u2019m Housin, It\u2019s My Thing<\/em> and the title track and peaked at No. 1 on Billboard\u2019s Top R&B\/Hip Hop chart.<\/p>\n
