Back in ’87: Public Enemy & LL Cool J Invaded Europe (Documentaries)
Footage from a live performance by New York hip-hop group Public Enemy, filmed at La Mutualité in Paris on November 23, 1987. The group was supporting LL Cool J on his tour.
On stage, Chuck D and Flavor Flav are joined by DJ Terminator X, along with Professor Griff, who leads the S1W (Security of the First World)—the group’s onstage security unit—performing militant-style choreography with unloaded prop Uzi rifles.
Public Enemy perform tracks from their debut album Yo! Bum Rush The Show, including “Too Much Posse.”
The audience includes notable figures from the French hip-hop and cultural scene, such as Didier Morville (later known as JoeyStarr of NTM), Vincent Cassel, and Maï Lucas, Fly Girl and photographer.
On November 15, 1987, the second Hip Hop concert with US artists took place in Copenhagen, Denmark at Saga on Vesterbrogade, with LL Cool J and Public Enemy (Eric B & Rakim cancelled) on the 87 Def Jam Tour. The concert was documented by Danmarks Radio (Danish national TV) in the program “Rock Fra Gaden” (Rock From the Street) which was broadcast on December 12, 1987. Organized by Danish media personality Hans Otto Bisgaard, with clips from the concert, interviews with concert guests, including Cutfather and Soulshock, and interviews with LL Cool and especially Chuck D, who drop some knowledge.
In the Danish book by Copenhagen Archives, “FLYERS HIP HOP I KØBENHAVN 1984-1996” the concert is documented with concert poster, ticket and photo.
