Video: Kryptik – Step Up

Scottish Hip-Hop staple, Kryptik, is back with another banger. This time pairing up with 2-time UK DMC Finalist, DJ Pandamonium, to provide us with some soulful summer sounds.

The track is called Step Up and does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s all about maintaining a positive attitude while everything else is falling apart. Using his Kryptik methods, the SAMA Award Nominee has somehow managed to make a very personal piece relatable.

Despite the sincere sentiment, the classic BoomBap beat keeps it vibrant and uplifting. The skippy slicing of the string sample, combined with the descending bass and bouncy break, make for a wholesome sound, which has already seen support from BBC Introducing Scotland, Resonate Scotland and even Chuck D from Public Enemy.

Shot next to a lazy little loch, (with a rare appearance of the ever elusive Scottish sun), the stunning scenery provides the perfect backdrop to complete the package. Visuals handled by local battle rap veteran, Andrew MacKenzie.
