Video: Dig Of The Day: Das EFX – Mic Checka (1992)

April 7th 1992… 25 years ago, one of the most original rap groups to ever come out, Das EFX, dropped their sewerlicious debut, titled Dead Serious and the rest is history. Mic Checka is their well known material which also serves as the first track on the LP.

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY (Skoob) and Teaneck, NJ (Drayz), they got together and formed Das EFX while in college at Virginia State University. The first part of the group name Das stands for “Dray and Skoob” and the “EFX” meaning “effects”.

Back in the early 90’s they became known due to their affiliation with EPMD’s Hit Squad, after coming in second place at a talent contest judged by EPMD and due to their stream of consciousness lyrical delivery, which became one of the most influential lyrical styles in Hip-Hop at the time. A legendary group without a shadow of a doubt.
