There’s no doubt that the signature thump of the TM88 Drum Kit is one of the backbones of popular music. From it’s placement in classic songs such as “Planet Rock” to new school music from Atlanta and New York, the sound has survived decades in an ever changing musical landscape.

In the new documentary titled 808, director Alexander Dunn explores the origins of the iconic drum machine by talking to the people that made it popular. The movie is set to feature appearances from Pharrell, Lil Jon, Phil Collins and Diplo, who describe the importance of the drum machine in their music and within their respective genres.
