Thirty-five years ago today, an album dropped that was mandatory listening for anyone who lived for that trunk-rattling bass. In 1991, Vicious Base released “Back To Haunt You“, with the legendary DJ Magic Mike pulling all the strings behind the boards.

While most of the world was looking at New York at the time, Orlando and the rest of Florida were building their own lane. Magic Mike, already a God in the bass scene, really put in work on this one. He managed to blend his signature deep frequencies with straight-up rap, making the album sound both gritty and high-energy. The title track, “Back To Haunt You,” is easily the highlight—a beat that hits you instantly and a crew that stays direct without any filler.

Let’s be honest, Vicious Base never became household names, and this record mostly lives on as a cult classic for the crate diggers. But it’s an essential piece of Florida’s rap history. If you want to hear what the South sounded like before it took over the charts, crank the volume and let this one ride.
