TY Tim, one half of the pioneering UK duo, Wee Papa Girl Rappers, has sadly passed away at the age of 55. Born Samantha Lawrence, TY Tim made up the duo alongside her sister, Sandra Lawrence, a.k.a. Total S. They formed Wee Papa Girl Rappers in 1987, and would soon release their debut album, “The Beat, The Rhyme, The Noise,” on Jive Records, in 1988. They were well known for infusing dancehall, reggae, and house into their music.

The duo parted ways shortly after the release of their sophomore album, “Be Aware,” in 1990. They would return to release two singles, “Wee Are The Girls,” and “Wherever You Go,” in 1992 and 1994, respectively.  The news of her passing was shared by DJ Dave Pearce, who shared a heartfelt instagram post, and described Samantha as “a part of a groundbreaking era of trailblazing British female rappers who, against the odds, conquered the UK charts.”

May she rest in peace.
