Trick Trick – The People vs. (20 Years Anniversary)
Author: Rasha Sensei
Today marks 20 years since the debut album of the man who holds the keys to Detroit. On December 27, 2005, Trick Trick released “The People vs.“, a project that served more as a demonstration of local authority than a musical revolution.
Let’s be real: the album gained its massive traction mainly due to the Eminem feature on “Welcome 2 Detroit“. While that track became a certified anthem because of its raw energy, the rest of the album mostly fluctuated between standard street rap and typical mid-2000s production. However, its importance lies in solidifying Trick Trick’s role as the official gatekeeper of the 313, which eventually led to his infamous “No Fly Zone” policy.
It’s not an album that usually cracks the “greatest of all time” lists, but it’s a solid piece of Detroit history from an era when the city was the focal point of the rap world.
