Once Upon A Time In Shaolin To Be Played Publicly For The First Time
Dubbed as “the world’s rarest album,” existing in a single physical copy, “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” by the Wu-Tang Clan will be played to the public for the first time, at Australia’s Museum of Old and New Art. From June 15th to June 24th, listening sessions where visitors can hear a “curated” 30-minute mix of the album will be held. The mix will be played from a personalized Wu-Tang Playstation 1 inside Mona’s recording studio.
The album’s rarity was intended as a statement about the impact of streaming and piracy on the value of music. A single two-CD copy was pressed in 2015, and the digital master files deleted. A legal agreement at the time stated that the album could not be used for any commercial purpose for 88 years, or until 2103.
