New Book: Past The Margin: A Decade of Unkut Interviews
When Robbie Ettelson started the music blog unkut.com in 2004 to fill in time during the night shift as a printer, he had no idea it would lead him to work as a music journalist for print magazines in the US, UK, Italy, France, Germany, and Japan. Over the course of the following decade, Robbie conducted over 180 phone interviews with rappers, DJs, producers, musicians, and journalists.
Past The Margin: A Decade of Unkut Interviews is a collection of long-form interviews with those who were there for the key milestones in the development of rap. It features thirty conversations with members of pioneering groups such as Public Enemy, De La Soul, Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Boogie Down Productions, and The Beatnuts, as well as legendary soloists such as LL Cool J, Schoolly-D & Just-Ice. Plus exclusive sessions with three of the key members of the Sugar Hill Records house band, who were responsible for hits such as Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five‘s The Message.
