Nas To Adapt The Classic Movie “Beat Street” For Broadway
Nas will produce a stage adaptation of the beloved 1984 movie, “Beat Street.“ The announcement was made after a 40th anniversary screening of the film at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The upcoming production, which is aiming for Broadway, will expand on the film and create new material to complement it’s musical numbers.
Nas will be collaborating with producer Arthur Baker, who served as a co-producer, composer, and musical producer on the original film. Set in New York City’s South Bronx, “Beat Street” follows a group of aspiring artists, a DJ, breakdancer and graffiti artist, who are chasing their dreams in the early 1980s’ bubbling hip-hop scene.
