Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones Pt. II” Named The Greatest Hip-Hop Beat Of All Time
Rock The Bells panel, composed of DJ Epps, Torae, DJ Skratch and Cool (of Cool & Dre), proclaimed the Mobb Deep’s iconic “Shook Ones Pt. II” the greatest Hip-Hop instrumental of all time! After a lengthy discussion, the classic track was placed on top of their top 50 list, right above “Still D.R.E.” from Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg and “Electric Relaxation” by A Tribe Called Quest.
The legendary instrumental was produced by Mobb Deep’s Havoc himself, who responded by saying “I just want to say how honored I am to have ‘Shook Ones Pt. II’ by Mobb Deep, produced by myself, voted number one Hip-Hop beat of all time” and continued to reminisce about his and Prodigy’s beginnings and to thank all the Hip-Hop fans.
For the creation of the (in)famous instrumental, Havoc combined samples from “Dirty Feet” by the Daly-Wilson Big Band, “Kitty With The Bent Frame” by Quincy Jones and “Jessica” by Herbie Hancock, with the latter of the three being brilliantly used two times with different speed.
