Kendrick Lamar’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show

(apnews.com) Kendrick Lamar made history as the first solo hip-hop artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome. Introduced by Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam, Lamar delivered a powerful performance spanning just under 13 minutes. He opened with a new untitled song and transitioned into “Squabble Up,” “Humble.,” “DNA.,” “Euphoria,” and “Man at the Garden.” Lamar’s performance included social commentary, with dancers labeled “too loud, too reckless, too ghetto” by Jackson’s Uncle Sam character, reminding him to “play the game.” SZA joined Lamar on stage for “Luther” and “All the Stars.” Despite concerns over potential legal complications with Drake, Lamar performed the contentious hit “Not Like Us,” modifying the lyrics slightly. Featuring guest appearances by producer Mustard and Serena Williams, Lamar’s show reinforced his dominance in the music industry, following his previous performance at the 2022 Super Bowl. He aimed to highlight the impact of rap music and successfully reaffirmed its influence on a global scale.
