Giovane Feddini & Big Swords – SIRENE (Album Stream)

I hope y’all are ready for a summer jam because this record is an ultimate summer journey on the Italian coastline. Being hyperproductive this year, the Padua-born rapper Giovane Feddini drops his third studio project this year, dubbed “Sirene”, and it’s a beautiful one. As he’s a recent discovery, I really didn’t know what to expect of this project, but after the first listen-through I realized I have another release this year to add among my favorite ones.
Pit stop sulla costa…
This may be one of the best explanations of the album’s vibe – imagine yourself driving by the Italian coast with the top down, stopping on a random gravel parking next to the road, opening a cold beer and watching the most beautiful sunset setting over the silhouette of a charming, small Italian town, with a summer breeze emptying your head of thoughts that drift away into the distance. You may think this is an exaggeration, but you can’t possibly imagine what kind of a positive and warm feeling went through my body while listening to this album. An ultimate peace of mind, and even though his previous work is real dope, subjectively, this one stands as his best one yet.
I cannot say how much time has been put into the project, apart from being released only a month after the “Fed The Godson” album, but the attention to detail, the lyrics and chosen flows to enrich the already smooth and elegant beats, are things worth of thorough analysis. Although it has that lo-fi-ish length of 18 minutes with only 7 songs, the album feels complete and thoughtfully constructed. Even with the first trumpet tones on the intro, I already had a feeling this is going to be one hell of a journey, and boy, I wasn’t disappointed one bit with what came next. I had a feeling like I’m sitting on a small balcony in Riomaggiore or Positano, listening to a smooth sax playing in the distance while having a tasty cup o’ espresso and playing briscola. Meraviglioso.

What’s interesting about the instrumental selection, it’s like going back to 2002 and playing GTA: Vice City and listening to that selection of some of the best tracks from the 1980s, combined with a bit of jazz, but with a Mediterranean twist of sun-baked samples with the white wine taste. I wouldn’t expect such an 80s vibe, but I gotta say, it works like a charm. One could say it’s a cinematic experience of a warm evening that smells like pine trees and salty air. It wouldn’t be an overreach to say the producer Big Swords outdid himself on this one.
The same applies to Feddini and also the chosen guests that share the mic with him. His silky flow and the tone colour of his voice simply embraces each and every instrumental, adding even more finesse to the sophisticated opulence of sound. It’s like these two were destined to work together as what they created are the whitest of pearls, wrapped in cashmere. Even though I didn’t expect such a number of featured rappers on a short album like this one, but in the end, I didn’t mind it one bit. They don’t feel like guests at all, but instead like they share the main role on the album with Giovane. In other words, “Sirene” is made in a way nothing and no one specifically stands out. What stands out is the album as a whole with its “A to Z” form; like a short film that offers a full experience when watching from the start to the end. The featured artists understood their assignment and embraced it fully, which completes the album in a very unique way.
In short, you can think of the album as an Aperol Spritz and its famous three steps of creation: there’s Giovane Feddini, there’s Big Swords, and then there are the guests — a recipe for the tastiest of albums. At first, I didn’t know what to expect from the album apart from the hot front cover (can you blame me?). However, I was instantly blown away with the vibe, style, originality, and shown skills. There’s not a single drop of rain or negative vibes here. Instead, the “Sirene” album paints the best picture of a perfect, eased-up summer in all its glory. Peep this: the Italian seaside, a light shirt, sunglasses, a cold drink, a pleasant sun on the skin, the muffled sound of waves crashing against the cliff, and this album on repeat. Oh, and a topless signora for a full circle of pure pleasure. Fidati, non avrai bisogno di altro.
With YouTube, the album is also available on most of the major streaming services and can be found on this link.
