Dj Kid Grebo – Paul C. Lives Vol. 1

Dope mixtape dedicated to the memory of the late great Hip-Hop engineer Paul C. Mckasty. Mixed by Dj Kid Grebo and hosted by Prince Po of Organized Konfusion.

Paul C. was producer, engineer and mixer in the 80s. He gained recognition for his work with notable artists such as Devo, Organized Konfusion, Kwamé, Queen Latifah, Biz Markie, Ultramagnetic MCs, Rahzel, and Eric B & Rakim.

Complex called him ‘one of the most important figures in the development of sampling’ and credited him for introducing chopping and panning samples to rap music production. Questlove referred to Paul C. as ‘damn near the J Dilla of his day’. Several notable producers have also praised Paul C.‘s advanced drum programming. Pete Rock called his drums on Ultramagnetic MC‘s Give The Drummer Some ‘the illest drums I ever heard’.

On July 18, 1989, Paul C. was shot to death in Queens, at the age of 20. Despite his short career he left a lasting Hip-Hop legacy. He was mentor of Large Professor who took over to become critically appraised producer and emcee. Many people believe Paul C. would have had a legendary career in music and would have achieved a level of success similar to DJ Premier.
