Playaz Club – Rappin’ 4-Tay

This 1994 track by the San Francisco artist, Rappin’ 4-Tay, was the lead single of his second LP, “Don’t Fight the Feelin’.“ It became the first top 40 hit for the Bay Area emcee, and has since become a classic West Coast track. An anthem for all the playaz of the world, it’s mellow guitar strums and smooth drums will take you straight to cloud nine.

La Raza – Kid Frost

“La Raza“ helped push Latin Hip-Hop to more of a forefront when it was released in 1990 as the lead single of Kid Frost’s debut album, “Hispanic Causing Panic.“ It is considered to be one of the first more widely successful Latin Hip-Hop jams. “La Raza“ is Spanish for “the race,“ or more symbolically, “the people.“ It samples the 1970 El Chicano classic, “Viva Tirado.“

Pillow – Richie Rich

A smooth 1996 joint, brought to us on Richie Rich’s “Seasoned Veteran“ album. Rame Royal and D’Wayne Wiggins are featured on this love song to the herb. It incorporates “(Lay Your Head On My) Pillow,“ a 1993 soul jam by Tony! Toni! Toné! “Pillow“ was featured on the soundtrack of Eddie Murphy’s “The Nutty Professor.”

Eazy-er Said Than Dunn – Eazy E

Just like the changing seasons, “radio jams are a part of the cycle.“ And this was a smash radio jam when it was released in 1989 as the second single off of Eazy E’s debut album, “Eazy-Duz-It.“ Produced by the legendary Dr. Dre & DJ Yella, it still continues to be a great one, 35 years later. It is one of the rare songs that Dre wrote lyrics for.

Loc’ed After Dark – Tone Loc

“Loc’ed After Dark“ is the title track of Tone Loc’s 1989, double-platinum debut album. His easy-going approach carries the vibe of coolin’ out in the streets of L.A. on a funky summer night. Even though the album’s singles, “Wild Thing,“ and “Funky Cold Medina,“ garnered more widespread recognition, “Loc’ed After Dark“ remains a great addition to the LP. It features a slightly altered instrumental of Ice-T’s 1988 joint, “High Rollers.“
