Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E.’s Godfather Has Passed Away
One of the West Coast Hip-Hop pioneers, Godfather (aka Ted Devoux), died last Sunday at the age of 55.
Godfather was a founding member and band-leader of Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. along with his brothers. Their name mimicked the sound of a shotgun blast with the second half serving as an acronym for Too Rough International Boo-Yaa Empire.
Over the years, Boo-Ya T.R.I.B.E. released several LPs (New Funky Nation, Good Times Bad Times, Mafia Lifestyle) and collaborated with artists like Ice Cube, Mack 10, Eminem, George Clinton & Layzie Bone among others. In 1993 the T.R.I.B.E. appeared on the Judgment Night OST performing Another Body Murdered with Faith No More.
BlackoutHipHop extends condolences to Godfather’s family and friends.
